Mind of Modern Man Podcast - Episode 16 - My Time With The Admiral
Wednesday Jul 24, 2019
Wednesday Jul 24, 2019
Hey! It’s Keith from Mind of the Modern Man – the website and podcast about a guy
in his 40s, living life and telling stories.
A while ago, I shared the story while I was observing a little slice of life, stuck in the waiting vestibule of the local Pep Boys.
As I sat there, I took to my laptop and typed down what was happening all around me.
Today I share the podcast of this story – I call it – My Time With The Admiral.
Read the Transcript Below (full story at MindofModernMan.com):
I’m sitting here in the ‘waiting room’ of the local Pep Boys – it’s time for the family SUV to go through an oil change. As I sit here, I’m really enjoying the life buzzing all around me.
Ever do that - just sit there and look around you and try to figure out the stories behind what you’re a first person witness of? For this next hour or so, we are all sharing this small sliver of our life. Strangers pulled together with a common need – a professional to do to our vehicle what we can’t.

Mind of Modern Man Podcast - Episode 15 - THIS Close to Perfect
Wednesday Jul 17, 2019
Wednesday Jul 17, 2019
Hey! In today's podcast, I go back, exactly 20 years from today, for this week's story.
July 18, 1999 - a trip to Yankee Stadium and what ensued was nothing short of an amazing story - and not just for the reason you think.
It was Yogi Berra Day!
My hero, Don Mattingly was Back at the Stadium!
Paul O'Neill made a Highlight Reel catch.
David Cone pitched REALLY well that day...
But that's only half the story of my day. Listen to it all here or on iTunes today.

Mind of Modern Man Podcast - Episode 14 - More Than Just A T-Shirt
Tuesday Jul 09, 2019
Tuesday Jul 09, 2019
In the mail last month, I received the newest graphic tee from our friends at Wohven.com. It’s a great look – and reminds me 100% of what it was like getting dressed in the late 80s and early 90s and some of the great memories those shirts were a part of for me.
Listen to our latest podcast her or you can find us on iTunes too! If you'd rather read the story - you can do that on our website too!
I was born in 1975. That means I was born in the time of disco, ran around as kid during the 80s pop phenomenon and came ‘of age’ in the era of grunge and big hair rock.
Like most families with multiple kids (I have one amazing younger brother), my mom often bought us clothes that looked good to her – and some of the times, even matched.
I remember red shirts with a huge black strip on it, with faux snaps across the top and bottom of the strip. With matching shorts, of course.
I remember baseball tees and the generic solid color shirts from JC Penny or Bradlees.

Mind of Modern Man Podcast - Episode 13 - Where Am I Supposed To Look?
Friday Jul 05, 2019
Friday Jul 05, 2019
With everyone heading to the beach for the Fourth of July weekend, I have another story for you. Today, I'm recalling a recent trip to the beach.
I’ve mentioned, in previous stories, my major disinterest in the beach.
The heat scalding your skin. The shells slicing the soft underbelly of your feet. The crowds of people flexing, preening and sweating all over the place. And of course, the super, almost occult-like, ability for sand to get EVERYwhere it doesn’t belong. Not that sand actually belongs anywhere, mind you.
I’m not just whining here. Sand in the shorts is a real issue. We have chaffing. We have all kinds of bacteria. We have who knows what kind of pollution and no kidding, the American Journal of Epidemiology has been researching the relationship between beach sand and fecal contamination. That’s right, evidence has shown that sand does, in fact, harbor high concentrations of fecal particles.
But I digress.
The other day I went to the beach.
Why? Because I love my kids. And my kids love the beach.
So, there I was. At the beach. 4pm on a Sunday – the first Sunday where the temperature dipped its toe into the 80s here in Connecticut. My family loves to pack a picnic and head to the beach, either first thing in the morning before the crowds, or around 4pm as they are all leaving.
My kids are little, so they’re playing in the sand and treading into the shallows of our little inlet of Long Island Sound. This is the extent of our beachy activities. Bring a few pails, some shovels and a plastic dump truck and we’re in business.

Mind of Modern Man Podcast - Episode 12 - The Closer I Am To Fine
Wednesday Jun 12, 2019
Wednesday Jun 12, 2019
We've decided to change up direction a bit here at Mind of Modern Man and get back to our roots of simple storytelling. We told you all, this site would be about a guy in his 40s, living life, and telling the story. So - we're going to flesh that out for you.
We'll still post about some of our favorite pop culture things, great products we love, and all that fun stuff, but we're going to do this in a story form across all our platforms - here on the blog, on our podcast and over on our YouTube Channel too!
We're starting it off with a podcast of a story I wrote in May 2017 about the word "FINE". There's so much there!

A few weeks ago, the holy grail of pop culture happened - Disney released the Teaser Trailer for the FINAL movie in the Skywalker Saga at the Star Wars Celebration in Chicago. We have now seen (many many times) the trailer for Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker.
SO, we did a reaction video of watching the trailer. Jon and I recorded our feelings after seeing it a few times. The reaction may be a few weeks old, but dang if they aren't real!
THEN after that 2+ minutes, Jon and I hit record on a new Podcast where we pulled apart the trailer, bit by bit, to talk about all the moments that caught our eye. A LOT of things to talk about for a 2-minute video.
From costume choices to links to past movies to our own theories on what's next. Give a listen and hit the comments to start the discussion!

On this episode I'm joined by Jon to talk about waiting.
Specifically - we're waiting for Avengers End Game and Star Wars Episode IX (We NOW know it's called The Rise of Skywalker).
Which are we looking forward to more? Did The Last Jedi sour Jon enough to NOT be excited for Episode 9? Does Marvel now hold a special place that Star Wars USED to? Does Keith even watch Marvel movies? What does Bumblebee, smoking in the early 70s and Will & Grace all have to do with this?
Listen and find out! Then like, subscribe, comment and share! Your karma points will go up a LOT!

I LOVE BASEBALL!
Spring Training is here. The grass is green, the players are running around in the sun and baseball is BACK!
Sure, the world seems to be navigating towards NFL Football these days, but I still love the American Pastime.
Why? MANY reasons - the history, the passion, the fantasy, the movies and the game itself! Have a listen to Modern Man Podcast Episode 9 and find out more.

Mind of Modern Man - Special Episode - 2019 Pledge Drive
Tuesday Feb 19, 2019
Tuesday Feb 19, 2019
Asking for help is never an easy thing to do. For the Modern Man, the younger man and the older man too. There’s something inside us that disconnects when it’s time to ask for help.
It’s especially difficult when you’re asking people to give of themselves for you. Maybe it’s a level of embarrassment. Maybe it’s a fear of being let down or not wanting to inconvenience those around us.
Whatever the psychological reason – we’re here to ask for help. It’s like our version of the old PBS pledge drive! (Without the fun movies or celebrities on the other end of the phone.)
The Modern Man community has grown over the last year and we dived into some really fun aspects – Podcast, Video and a LOT of Social Media.
Our amazing Patrons have allowed us to grow our online presence with tools such as our web domain, email and graphic work. Now, as we continue to grow the mission of Modern Man – we need to grow the tools we have, as well.
While we tell the stories and tips we learn along the way, we know those of us in our 40s are able to relate, or need the tips too! We LOVE it when they have their own to share, as well. But, you know what? The more we look at it, the more we realize it’s more than that. The generations that came before us like our stories as a way to reminisce to what it was like some years ago. Those of you in your 20s or 30s can hopefully read of our adventures (or misadventures sometimes) and learn and have ideas of what comes next!
With that in mind, we need to keep growing. We need more site storage. We need editing tools, recording tools and video tools. We’d love to upgrade our website and so much more.
That’s where YOU can help and be a part of our Modern Man Community. When you visit our Patreon page, you can pledge, as little as $1 a month, to help us grow.
We made a video to talk a little bit more about it.
There are tiers of support and some Modern Man swag is available too!
If you can help, we will truly know you trust us to continue our mission. I talked earlier about being scared of asking, and this may be one of the biggest reasons – we feel good about our mission – but does anyone else? Sometimes it’s scary to ask for validation of that.
But we are here – hearts wide open – asking for your help.
Donate and be a patron. OR, if you have a business and would like to be a sponsor of our videos and podcasts, CONTACT US, and we can talk more about that.
If you cannot donate – we understand! We’ve been there. You can help in other ways – most importantly would be to share our word to those who you believe would enjoy reading our stories, watching our videos and listening to our podcasts.
So – let the world know what you stand for – and help us grow.
If you have any questions, please let us know! We’re here!
All my thanks for your consideration. It truly means the WORLD to us that you’re here.
Cheers!
Keith
